Luo Tiejun: Seize the strategic opportunity to develop smart steel

“The steel industry is a large-scale, highly automated process-oriented industry. After several years of supply-side structural reforms, the steel industry is in a critical period of transformation and upgrading, and the development of intelligent manufacturing and information technology is on the rise. “On September 19th, Luo Tiejun, vice president of China Iron and Steel Association, said at the six-member (expansion) meeting of the Steel Association Metallurgical Equipment Branch. At the meeting, Luo Tiejun, vice president of the Steel Association, shared his views on the development of the steel industry and the development of smart manufacturing.

Lower-than-expected performance in the downstream boosted steel production growth

“Since the beginning of this year, steel production has increased by a large margin. As an insider, we must recognize the relationship between production and demand.” Luo Tiejun said, “China’s steel industry is a fully competitive industry, a demand-driven industry, steel. The level of production is not determined by the supplier, but depends on the needs of the market.”

According to statistics, from January to August this year, China’s crude steel output increased by 9.1%, with an increase of 55.46 million tons and a net export of 990,000 tons. The increase is used to meet domestic steel demand, of which 2/3 is used to meet the construction field. The increase in demand; GDP and industrial added value increased slightly compared with the previous period, but the growth rate of infrastructure and real estate investment increased compared with last year. This unexpected performance has greatly boosted the demand of the steel industry, and the Chinese steel industry has met the supply requirements for steel materials in the construction of the national economy. “If there is no increase in steel production, it is impossible to achieve the current scale of construction. It is unrealistic to rely on a large amount of imported steel for production and construction.” Luo Tiejun further said, “In addition, we must prevent the investment and real estate from pulling. New capacity was created in violation of regulations; once the economic environment returns to normal, the economic transformation is accelerated, and vicious competition occurs after the demand for steel is reduced.”

In addition, since the beginning of this year, China’s steel prices have shown a downward trend as a whole. From January to July, the average comprehensive price of CSPI steel was 109.48 points, down 5.54 points year-on-year, a decrease of 4.86%. Steel prices in July were close to the full year* low and recovered in September. The economic benefits of the whole industry showed a downward trend. From January to July, the sales profit rate of member steel companies was 5.09%, down 2.25 percentage points year-on-year.

“The sharp decline in earnings was mainly due to the increase in the price of raw fuel.” Luo Tiejun said, “However, in the context of declining industry benefits, industry investment is still growing substantially. From January to July, ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing industry investment The growth of 37.8% should be of concern to the whole industry.”

The steel industry has certain advantages in promoting smart manufacturing.

When it comes to smart manufacturing, Luo Tiejun pointed out that the current modern information technology represented by the Internet, big data, artificial intelligence, etc. is changing with each passing day. The rapid development of a new round of intelligent manufacturing and information technology will definitely have a major impact on the development of the industry. profound influence. Luo Tiejun believes that the implementation of intelligent manufacturing and informatization in the steel industry has certain advantages: First, the steel industry is a traditional industry that needs to be transformed and upgraded, and has an urgent internal drive; second, the steel industry is a typical industry for the generation and application of big data. It has the feasibility of realization; the third is that the production process of the steel industry is a long-process, large-scale manufacturing industry with reproducibility that is widely implemented.

In recent years, the state has attached great importance to the transformation and upgrading of the steel industry, and has successively introduced many policies to promote the integration of the two industries and implement smart manufacturing, creating a good environment for the transformation and upgrading of the industry. In 2015, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology started the special demonstration of smart manufacturing pilot demonstrations nationwide. Through the special actions, a total of 305 pilot demonstration projects were identified in the whole country, including 7 steel and steel industries such as Baosteel, Anshan Iron and Steel, and Hegang Tangshan Steel. 9 projects of the company.

“From the perspective of the current development of the industry, although we have achieved certain results, there are still some problems.” Luo Tiejun pointed out that the first is that the industry promotes the integration of the two industries and the implementation of intelligent manufacturing is not balanced. According to the statistical analysis of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the maturity of intelligent manufacturing is divided into 1 to 5 levels. The maturity of intelligent manufacturing capabilities in China’s steel industry is basically between 1.8 and 3.5, and the level of industrial enterprises is uneven. Advanced steel companies such as Baosteel have a high level of intelligent manufacturing and are the first to promote intelligent manufacturing. Most of the other steel companies have a low level of integration, and the basic work of intelligent manufacturing needs to be improved. Second, the industry’s intelligent manufacturing base is relatively weak, and the overall situation is in its infancy, lacking industry standards and training and reserves of professional talents, and product compatibility and integration are poor. Third, the ability to innovate is insufficient. In the development, management and integration of the Internet, information systems and physical systems, the industry still has weak innovation capabilities; when the product production process design and intelligent decision support system are integrated, and the business system extends to the entire industry chain, there is a lack of mature industry systems. solution.

Luo Tiejun believes that the development of smart manufacturing in China’s steel industry also has advantages. The gap between China’s manufacturing industry and the Internet is not very different from that of advanced countries. This kind of integration has always been a matter of recent years. It is not too late for China to come up and realize. The US manufacturing industry and the Internet are very strong, but many manufacturing links are no longer in the country; Germany’s manufacturing system is strong, but the Internet is lacking; China’s Internet is very strong, second only to the United States, and is also the world’s * manufacturing power . In terms of integrated development and intelligent manufacturing, the enthusiasm and innovative spirit of Chinese enterprises and the advanced countries are at a starting line. The key issue is the concept. “We must seize strategic opportunities and enhance self-confidence.” Luo Tiejun stressed.

Talking about the future development direction of intelligent manufacturing in the steel industry, Luo Tiejun believes that three aspects should be emphasized:

The first is to accelerate the development of the entire process of intelligence. Gradually improve the construction of four levels of information systems for basic automation, production process control, manufacturing execution, and enterprise management, and focus on cultivating four new intelligent manufacturing models: process-based intelligent manufacturing, network collaborative manufacturing, large-scale personalized customization, and remote operation and maintenance.

The second is to accelerate the development of intelligent production services. Through the use of key technologies such as the Internet of Things, big data, and cloud computing, information integration from user requirements to R&D, production, sales, and service is realized.

The third is to accelerate the development and application of the industrial Internet and the Internet of Things. Seize the development opportunities of 5G, vigorously develop the “Internet +” model, carry out research on the integration of steel manufacturing and industrial Internet, Internet of Things, create a new business model, promote the application of industrial Internet, Internet of Things in steel manufacturing and precision manufacturing of steel enterprises Provide guidance and services.
